Are you aware of this? Would you still stay on Facebook after knowing this?

Are you aware of this? Would you still stay on Facebook after knowing this?

According to this site at www.forbes.com (the link is at the bottom) there's an article that say that a research at Carnegie Mellon University that shows that Facebook has essentially become a worldwide photo identification database.  Paired with related research, they are looking at the prospect where good, bad and ugly actors will be able identify a face in a crowd and know sensitive personal information about that person.

To make things short, people now can be able to know lots more about you than you want people to know. With just a picture scan weather it's from scaning from the internet or from having a picture taken in public. They can now be able to tell when were you born, where do you live, what is your real name, age, size, weight and....etc.

I was not fully aware of this during my first time using the internet until friendster came into my life. It took me awile until I was aware of the dangers of this privacy invation. Now I have been using facebook and I have keep my information to the minimum.

So that brings me to the question? Are you aware of this? Would you still stay on Facebook after knowing this?

TOPIC DISCUSSION 2

I do not aware about this before i read this article. Few years ago, i signed up those online social network, such as Skype, Facebook, Twitter and so on. That time i do not aware that our informations or photos will unauthorized use of others. After i read this article, i been aware about this although Facebook is a good place to model our social network online and we can base on the information to find out about others easily but everyone hope we have human rights in public network. I will still stay on Facebook since I addicted to it. What I can only do is change the security mode to privacy though I don't think this is a good way can use but at least already tried my best to prevent it.

Facebook Privacy Issues!

Are you aware of this? Would you still stay on Facebook after knowing this?

From secondary school till now, I will always be aware of this matters. Ever since my parents told me about people stealing pictures and put on the internet, I had started to be aware of all these issues. Back then, before I sign up Facebook, Friendster is quite popular that time and I signed up for it to explore and had fun. But after knowing the privacy issues, I deactivated all my Friendster accounts for safety. Now about the Facebook privacy issues, I still aware of it, I seldom upload profile pictures and sometimes changes my password to avoid hackers to hack me, but i'm still active in social networking.  I will sometimes update my status, but not my profile information, to avoid unnecessary disturb.

Well, I will definitely stay on Facebook no matter what because sometimes we have to keep in touch with friends and family, just have to take more precautions about the privacy issues and make sure that sensitive status should not be posted.

Facebook Privacy issue

Online privacy has always been a topic since the early days of the internet. I'm aware of this since the days of Friendsters. As the young kid I was, I took the advise of my elders to be extremely cautious about the internet. After multiple debates over this issue, I have stopped being active in social networking sites such as Friendster until the re-emergence of another nemesis named Facebook and it is not like I have the choice in order to keep myself updated with the latest news about everything.

Anyway, since I rejoined the cyber-metropolis of Facebook have always try not to keep updating my profile as it might garner unwanted attention. But these days, as companies are checking out their potential employees through Facebook. I have to be more active and careful with the status updates and even the news that I click as the whole world can see what I'm up to. Moreover, with that fancy new facial recognition on Facebook, I have to even be more cautious about pictures taken! As its functions outweighs the risk involved,
I cannot afford to just delete or give up on social networking sites as it is the "it" thing right now. Therefore, it is wise to take extra careful precautions to reduce the risk of unwanted information to leak to the internet.

As they said, half truths are not whole lies.

Would you still stay on Facebook after knowing this?
For me, i would still stay in facebook, this is because i didn't completely reveal my personal information into facebook. I wonder what they try to do if they have our information.

TOPIC DISCUSSION 2 (Week 11)

Facebook's privacy issues!

-Are you aware of this?
-Would you still stay on Facebook after knowing this?
All I can say that I was actually quite aware of the privacy issues in any kind of social networks. I've known about this matter ever since I was in secondary school. I have heard about this on the newspaper. That is why I do not want to sign up to any one of the social network including Friendster that was once pretty popular back then. I realised now that since we are living in a modern society, internet is the main course of our life. The latest news and information updates are always online especially since we are now often online through social networking. I have of been advised to not put too many information on my profile in Facebook. So, when I first started to sign up to my very own social network that is Facebook, I noticed that there are quite a number of information that I need to fill in but not all are compulsory to be filled up. My profile information to the public is always kept up to minimal so that people who want to get to know me must add me.
I would still stay on Facebook after knowing this because to me no matter which social network we choose to our liking, it will always be the same. It is up to us whether we want to be careful about what we post to our profile on Facebook. Besides that, we must also make sure to always secure our profile pictures or other pictures that we are tagged in to be private.

Facebook’s privacy issues!Facebook’s privacy issues!

Facebook’s Privacy Issues!

Am I aware of this? Yes I do, since the 1st day I was on a social network, which is Friendster, I never trust any of them. I never believe that they actually keep our personal information safe. I never update my personal information more than 50%, for precautions and my own safety purpose. As for my pictures? they're less than 10 pictures of my face on my Facebook, it's better to stay safe than sorry.

Giving up on social networking is not an option for current generation, it is one of the need of life to survive and yes, I cannot live without stalking my close friends and read through their wall posts before sleep. Facebook is part of my life! Even part of my education life involved Facebook, I have few discussion groups for assignments and subjects on Facebook.

I won't say that I will stop social networking but be more careful about tagging a picture of a face. It's not about rights and privacy that we're talking about because that's nothing we can do about it unless you have the power to fight against giant social networking companies. But we have to know the way to keep ourselves safe, to keep our information from leaking out.

Stop checking in every single location, and update full personal information on your profile. Not to say we fake our personal information but we preserved it, by just fill up what it's needed to open an account, other thn that? We keep it to ourselves. And girls, don't put your personal mobile number on Facebook, it's danger.

Thanks for viewing.

TOPIC DISCUSSION 1

The purpose of ACT114A is to suppress defamatory statements , it is raging on the Internet... and it's to determine the personal in publication and dissemination of any defamatory statements, comments and terms on the Internet... ACT114A may threatens the right to freedom of expression on the internet for me, what  happen if I create an anonymous account and posts unkind terms about my outstanding individual... or how to abuse of certain government departments who want a more enjoyable visit to its customers to provide free wireless Internet access, if there are hack by someone at the same time, are the government will take this responsibility? I agree to stop 114A from taking effect although the law is good and used to protect us but depends on how and who execute it...

Lor Cin Dee _ 1121117039

What is ACT114A?

What is ACT114A?
ACT114A is a cyber law to monitor the people who are using the web or the social networks. Not many people aware/concern about the act so far. Facebook, Twitter, a blog or an administer website users, are all under the ACT114A.

How would ACT114A affect you?
Now you may be wondering how can this act be as bad as one would think? well it's bad and you can become a victim intentionally or unintentionally. This image of will show you how it will effects you, the Stop114A website provides the best possible explanation.
Does it really matter?
It really does matter if it's involving innocent. The innocent people will be accuse of posting information that will offended the other person. The innocent need to defense itself or need to justify he/she is not wrong or have nothing to do with it.

Should you be concerned?
We should be concerned about this ACT 114A. 1 day we maybe accuse of something we did not post online then we may naver be able to prove our innocents. Then what? We get to be put into jail for a long time for it? This Act is an abomination and should be put down!

Topic 1 : What is Act 114A?

What is Act 114 A?

Any owner, administrator, host, editor, subscriber of a network or website, or owner of a computer or mobile device is presumed to have published or re-published its contents.

How would ACT114A affect you?

ACT 114A will affect me if i defame politician, or seditious, or if i lend my phone, laptop, computer, i pad or mobile device to somebody to access to network for doing his/her matter, it will affect me if that matter is wrongdoing, or under the false name or anonymous to post the bad comment.

Does it really matter?

It's really a matter if it's involving innocent. The innocent need to defense itself or need to justify he/she is not wrong or have nothing to do with it, maybe the innocent fail to prove her self its innocence, then its the fault of the ACT 114A.

Should you be concerned?

Of course i have to concerned this ACT 114A. Maybe 1 day i'm one of the victim accused by the authorities, by that time, i need to prove that i'm innocence. One more things is i don't like the innocent been injustice.

What is ACT114A?

What is ACT114A?

ACT114A is a latest amendment that is added to the Malaysia's Evidence of Act 1950, it is also known as the "Internet Blackout Day", from my research towards this act. During my research, what I know about ACT114A is that, it's a new section of law that is made to control people that are using the social networks and our rights to speech out. It is also made for the onus on the accused online identity impersonation that is related to the libellous content from the internet. It covers accused blogs or forums, home or shared wi-fi, laptops, tablets or even smart phones.
Even the news of this new implementation is spreading rapidly through social networks, not many of us are really aware or care of this act, perhaps that time we do not know what this act is all about. ACT114A will definitely affect me, causing me unable to access social networks. It is my habit to access social networks such as Facebook, everyday. If this act limits my network access, I will not able to update or get the latest news, I will also cannot express myself. To me, to everyone who access social networks, the new ACT114A is an extremely serious matter, we will have a very very hard and tough time to access internet and update news if this act really legally implemented.

TOPIC DISCUSSION 1 (Week 10)

-What is ACT114A?
-How would ACT114A affect you?
-Does it really matter?
-Should you be concerned?

Act 114A in another word is the 'Internet Blackout Day'- a quote I got from a poster online. What I know about Act 114A after my research is that, it's actually a change made to the law on our rights to voice out. Besides that, it also covers the site of accused blogs, shared wi-fi, laptop and others that are related to the internet. News have been spreading everywhere  about this new implementation, but we are not taking this matter as serious as we should.

As an internet user such as I, Act 114A will certainly affect me in a way such that I cannot access to the social network. This is because, social network is the easiest way to spread all different kinds of news where we can get easily. Besides, if the internet were to really be 'blackout', I can't get news updates. For example, I have an online group on Facebook where most of the time the lecturers update the their status. To me, Act 114A is a really serious matter. I do realised that if it is to be legally implemented, we will have a real tough time to access to information.

What is ACT14A?

ACT114A is a new cyber law to monitor the people who are using the web 2.0, or we so call the social networks. Not many people aware/concern about the act so far but if you're using Facebook, Twitter, a blog or an administer website, you are under the ACT114A. But, isn't the internet FREE?! The limitless freedom or sharing and writing? Well apparently this is now a different story to tell after the new law is fixed.

People should be really aware about this because we are so used to post anything we like on the web to express ourselves on the net. We need to filter and reconsider before posting a status at Facebook or tweeting on Twitter.

Should we just keep quiet and quit social networking and stay off the net to be safe? No, that's what the government want us to do, to feel fear for them. It's no criminal we're doing by expressing ourselves, what happened after this act? Something else for us to shut our mouth for daily speaking? It's very important for us to raise our awareness about the act and do something about it.

Are you people aware of the Act 114A?

The definition of Act - 114A and some examples

If an act  such as Act 114A is ever implemented,  I would dare say that I might just as well delete my Facebook account and stick to e-mails. The idea of accusing an individual of a crime based on assumptions  and personal responsibility is being very one-sided and injustice.

It is like blaming an open cage for a lost animal.

In my opinion if Act 114A ever comes live, this will indeed bring sabotage to a whole new level as individuals do not have the  right to defend or testify the truth as internet cyberspace technically belongs to no one.
